Fostering Nala: The Story of How We Fostered Nala

I was scrolling through Facebook when I decided to visit a page called Raising the Bar Animal Rescue. It was a page that posts profiles of at-risk dogs with the hopes of getting them adopted or fostered before it's too late. As I scrolled, I noticed a post of three beautiful, fluffy puppies in one kennel. They were sisters, and all three were all at risk for being euthanized due to lack of space. I was flabbergasted.

At the time, I was taking a break from fostering. There was an unfortunate event that occurred, and it prompted me to take a pause. Or that's what I was supposed to do. When I saw those precious dogs, I knew I needed to do something. So, I got off work early, and I headed to the shelter. When I found their kennel, I was greeted by the happiest, most adorable puppies. They were SO cute. I couldn't foster them, but I could network them through social media. So, I recorded several videos of their adorableness, and I started posting on Facebook, Tiktok, and YouTube as soon as I got home. I posted them in the foster support groups in hopes that someone would want to adopt or foster. I even reached out to a host of Border Collie rescues praying that they would be willing to tag these pups, who seemed to be Border Collie mixes. Sadly, there wasn't much interest.

The next day, I was talking to my boyfriend about it, and we both seemed pretty committed to helping them. We decided that we would foster all three. Three puppies! Crazy, right?! Well, he was down to foster them. The plan would be to snag them and get them on the transport list. The transport list is like a golden ticket for dogs from the shelter. They are transported to rescues up north where their adopters are vetted more rigorously then shelters here. Boom, the plan was in motion! I emailed the shelter to tag them. I was excited but nervous. Three puppies was a lot. We already have two dogs. But whatever! The shelter emailed me to back to inform me that all but one had been adopted or fostered. The last puppy, Baby Queen (renamed to Nala), needed a foster until her transport date in a month or two. I responded, "I'll take her!"

After work, I rushed to the shelter and picked up little Baby Queen. When she walked into the room, she was bouncy and happy. She was such a beautiful dog. It felt unreal that she was so close to be euthanized. Once in the car, she laid down in the front seat, and we drove home. She and her siblings were all safe and sound, and that made my heart happy.
